Dorothy Must Die….?

***Disclaimer: I bought this this book. I am not affiliated with any brand or company and do not receive any money from any purchase. My opinions are my own and are completely unbiased**

I must say that I did not expect to like this book, but Danielle Paige page….thank you. This book combined my childhood and my present life and completely shook it. This book is an unexpected adventure with so many twists and turns I really don’t know what to expect for book two! Dorothy Must Die is a story that I didn’t know I needed in my life. Surprisingly enough, this story, as well as The Wizard of Oz, is a book that I could see myself as the main character at times.

Obviously, Paige took the story of The Wizard of Oz and made it her own, and her version of what happened after is crazy. ***Spoilers Ahead*** Amy Gumm is the narrator that takes us to Oz. This Oz isn’t the OZ that we know, this Oz is bleak, and the magic is being drained. By who? Dorothy. Amy eventually gets roped into a quest to kill Dorothy and restore OZ to its former glory. Who ropes her in? Well, wicked witches, of course. How is she supposed to do this? Well, Amy nor we know the answer that. In this Oz, wicked is good and good is wicked, and everything is backward. The story takes us on a roller coaster of emotions while some characters die, some are freed, and others show their true self.

I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure if I would like the book when I first picked it up, and the first chapter or so I thought that maybe it was a bad choice. The book felt like it was a book it was written for younger kids but had a lot of cussing in it. Then there were a few things that just felt a little too made up and magical even for Oz, like a wicked witch crying diamonds (even though it had been a curse). But after I got passed that this book was actually really good! I read it in about two days and almost stayed up all night reading it! The story is very captivating and so much fun! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves twisted fairy tales!

  1. Who would of thought! An author to take such a historical and well known story and change it’s direction. Love it actually. Now I’m intrigued. I’ll have to add this book to my must read next list!
