I loved doing blogmas, but sometimes life gets in the way. The past couple of weeks have been really hard for me, and I had so much going on. I was at a point where I couldn’t do anything. I had no want or motivation to write or read. I’m back, though, and I have a pile of reviews and bookish goodies for everyone!
One reason I decided to call it quits on Blogmas was that I was going through a breakup. It came as a shock to me, and I wasn’t sure where to go from there. I wasn’t able to believe it, and I still am trying to wrap my head around it. I own;t go into the details of it, but it almost killed me. I also was under a lot of stress with work. We had a lot of hockey and basketball games going on and out holiday party at work. This is overwhelming, to begin with, but add break up and a manager on to it and whoa it took a lot out of me! I needed a break from thinking.
I don’t want to give you guys all the boring details of my life and the stress I was/am under, but I’m better now. I’m ready to start writing again. I love you guys, and I will be back again soon.
Does anyone else have a list of books they really want to read before 2019 ends? I have a small pile of books that I really would like to get to. These books have been sitting on my shelf for a while now, and they deserve to be read before the year ends! It’s December 8th, so maybe a book a week?
Let It Snow – It’s a Christmas book, so why not read it in December? John Green is also one of the writers for this book, and I love a good John Green book! This is the next book I plan on reading! My Christmas Spirit has been slacking this year, so hopefully, this will help me get in the mood! I have made it a goal of mine to read all of John’s books because I love his characters, and the ending also has something that I don’t expect
2. Winterwood – When is a better time to read a winter story? This was an Owlcrate book I received in my last box, and I like to keep up with the books! I’m really excited about this book because I haven’t really been let down with any of their books!
3. Lady Smoke – This is the sequel to Ash Princess, and I am so excited to see what will happen next! The third book in this series is expected to come out early 2020, so I want to make sure I have this book read before then. I’m hoping this book to have me on the edge of my seat! The first book I read so quickly, and as cliche, as it was, it has become one of my favorite books!
4. All the Light We Can Not See – I have no idea why I want to finish this book before 2019. There is something in me that just wants to read this book. To be honest, it’s been sitting in my room since March, so it’s about time that I read this book. Books need to be read, and I just keep putting this book off. It has so many characteristics of books that I have always loved, so fingers crossed it’s going to be one of my favorites.
5. Fangirl – I’ve heard so many good things about this book, and that’s why I bought it. When I bought it, I had a hint of what it was about, but I didn’t fully know until after I got it. I’m so drawn to this book because of all the hype that surrounds it! I’m ready to see if it lives up to the hype!
How is 2019 already coming to an end?? Seriously this year has flown by! I guess that’s what happens when you have your nose in a book! I saw this book tag on Foxes and Fairy Tales:Book Blog and I love it! This is such a fun idea for the end of the year!
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
I tend to finish books pretty quickly, so there’s not just one book that I want to finish before the end of the year, but I do have a pile that I would like to finish before the end of the year.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
I don’t have a single book that I like to transition into the new year with, but I do like to finish a book right before we enter into the new year. There’s just something about starting a new book on the first day of a new year that makes my heart happy!
Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
I’m not waiting for a book to be released in December, but I have a handful that I’m stoked about that are coming out in 2020, I’m looking at you The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
Oh gosh, I have a few. One of my top three is Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myrhcle. This makes it to the top three because I have heard good things about the book, and it sounds like it will be a good winter read! Another in my top three is Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw. Again, this sounds like it will be a good winter book, but it also is the newest Owlcrate book, and I like to keep with my Owlcrate books! The last book in my top three is Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian. I really loved Ash Princess, and I’m so excited to read what happens next! I also really want to read this book before the third book comes out in February!
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?
For sure! I have about five books in my 2019 TBR list and they all seem really good books!!
Have you already started making reading plans for 2020?
I have books I know I will buy, my TBR list, and the books from Owlcrate that I am planning on reading. As for when I’ll get to each of those books, I don’t have a plan. I’ll just pick up whichever book I feel drawn to!
Everyone! This is so much fun so much fun and it’s a great way to look towards the end of the year!
Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me. Every time I write, I feel like I am improving. This has been such a fun adventure, and I am so happy I get to continue it with all of you! Thank you for listening to my thoughts on the adventures I go on.
I started this book blog because I needed to talk about the books I read. All of my friends and family would pretend to listen to me or be interested in the books, so I never really could talk about what was happening. I also was made fun of for being so into my books, but here I can get my feelings out without to much trouble. Blogging is also a helpful way for me to sort out how I feel about the books and the characters. Sometimes when I am reading, I get so caught up in the world that I am not taking in everything that is being set up. When I go to write about it, I can finally see all the things I didn’t put together!
I didn’t start the blog for this reason, but I love looking back on the blogs. I can look back at what I have read and remember what happened in the books, which is super helpful when I’m waiting for the next book in the series to come. I also like to look at my reactions to books, and then how I think of the book now. I like to see how much I loved a book when I read it. The feeling of finishing a book is so exciting and sad at the same time, and I’m happy I am able to document that.
The bookish community is so wonderful. I’m so happy I have entered into a community where we can share thoughts and opinions! The bookish people are some of the most welcoming people I have ever met! Thank you for letting me be me.
If you like books about an enslaved heroine who needs to start a rebellion to get her crown back, Ash Princess is for you! This book has gotten some hate due to it being just like every other book, but it’s honestly worth the read! The story reminded of the Red Queen in many ways but was different enough that it kept me entertained! This book could be triggering for some people; there is violence, rape (not graphic), and abuse.
Ash Princess is the first book written by Laura Sebastian, and I’m in love! This being her debut book, it’s so good, cliche, but amazing! One of my favorite things in this book is the love triangle! Theodosia develops feelings for a friend from her childhood, Blaise, and the prinz of the nation that took her captive, Søren. I love this triangle because there really isn’t someone that would be best for her. One is being overrun by power, and the other is the heir to the nation that enslaved her. I really love her relationship between her and Søren. Søren is like a lot of princes in books, he doesn’t like his father’s policies, wants to change the world, and wants peace. They are the typical, star-crossed lovers, but she will not admit that she is in love with him. She’s not even sure that it is true.
This book had a pretty dark side to it. The Kalovaxian have a history of going from place to place, killing, and enslaving people. As the book goes on, Theo learns that they also raped some of these people as well. The king also sews the mouth shut of the servants in the place. Not to mention the number of people that he has starving in the mines.
It did take me about 100 pages to get into the book, but once I got there, I couldn’t stop reading! I stayed up all night to read the book! I can’t wait to read the sequel Lady Smoke! I am hopeful that the sequel will stray away from all the other books like this, but keep its charm!
I bought this book solely based on the fact I saw that OwlCrate had something that was inspired by this book coming in one of the books, and geez what a good buy! Caraval by Stephanie Garber was such a fun book to read! My head was spinning while reading this book! If you haven’t yet, go out and get this book!
Caraval is a place of trickery and confusion. Anything could happen, but it might not all be real. We follow Scarlett’s story through the five nights of her greatest and worst adventure. The only thing is, her sister is being held captive, and the only way to save her is by winning Caraval. She meets a few people on this journey, but can she trust them? Honestly, I still don’t know the answer to that question. I want to be able to trust Julian. But I just don’t know where he really stands. Does he stand with or against Master Legend? Is he just part of the game? There’s also Tella, whom I really want to be part of the game.
I felt like I was in Caraval while reading this! I didn’t know what a dream was, what was real, or what was an illusion from the game! It was so hypothesizing! This book is a MUST READ! Garber did a fantastic job in creating a world that that only had me wondering what was next, but made me want to keep reading. I couldn’t put this book down.
If you’re a reader who loves a book with surprises and twists and turns, this is a book for you! I really didn’t know what was coming next! This book had me at the edge of my seat! I read over the course of a week, but I would of read it in a day if I had the chance to do that! It’s an unforgettable ride!
Many people have already read The Selection Series, probably when they were in middle or high school. Here I am at the age of 23 and just read them for the first time. Why did I wait? I honestly don’t know. This book had been on my TBR list for a really long time, and I never got around to buying it! Yes, I bought all five books, but I’ve only read the first three….so far. I have so much love for these books, and I wish I would have started reading them sooner!
The Selection: Parts of this book reminded me of the Hunger Games, another part of this book reminded me of Divergent. If were to mix both of those out, take out the violence and turn it into The Bachelor: Royal Edition, that would be this book. I really can’t believe that I put this book off for so long! I have to say, I didn’t like Aspen when the book started, and he just got worse and worse as the book went on. #Maxonforever Honestly, this was really predictable, but I’m actually okay with that. Why? Because this book was probably meant for middle/high school readers, and I’m an adult. I read each of these books in like a day, but honestly, I would have sat in a chair and read it all at one time if I was able to! I loved that this book didn’t start out as full on love triangle. I appreciated that America told the Prince that she had her heartbroken and didn’t want to be with him. It’s so refreshing to see that happen in a book!
The Elite: I read these all back to back so that I might have some things in the wrong book, but stay with me. This is the book (or the moment) where my dislike for Aspen, turned into hate. He showed up as a guard, broken up with America, and still inferred with her life with Maxon! I do place a little blame on America, but I know how hard it can be to let go of a person you love. Aspen should have gotten over himself and let her be. He is the reason she is in the palace in the first place. He plays mind games with her that I really kept hoping he would die. I also enjoy this book because of the friendships that are shown in the book. I love the girls in this book and so many different personalities! I mean, they may be cliche, but I really wouldn’t change it any other way! This was probably my favorite book out of the three. I really didn’t put the book down unless I had to, and I was even thinking about it at work. So much happens in this book, and I don’t even know how to process it. We had death, people coming back, fighting, attacks, love, and so much more!
The One: I needed this book to be longer. First, let’s talk about how we not only have a love triangle between Maxon, America, and Aspen; but we also have a love triangle between Maxon, America, and Kriss. I would have loved to know what was going on in that relationship! This added so much to this story and had me a little worried. I know there are two more books after this book, but still. But in the end, all was right with the world. I even started not to hate Aspen as much, once he and Lucy became a couple. The one thing I really did not care for was one that the secret relationship between Aspen and American was hidden and lasted for so long. I also didn’t like how quickly Maxon and America got back together. It just seemed a little rushed for me. I feel like there would have been a lot more issues when they got back together that the book seems to skip over.
The sequel to Dorothy Must Die was an interesting read. I feel like nothing really moved forward with the plot; it just took a turn. I LOVED Dorothy Must Die. It was magical and a story I hold dear to me with a twist that I love! Now here we are with the sequel, and I really don’t know what happened. This book was a filler like no other. It did have some really good parts, but it also had some parts that I don’t know why they were there. I can’t tell if I like this book or not. I read it in a day, but I never got absorbed in it. There was just so much that I feel like it was missing. We didn’t get the same sense of adventure as we did the last book. There was no big battle that would change OZ (although something else did happen).
Within the first couple of chapters, a second villain dies, along with a rat. This was the first thing wrong with this book. Why kill the rat? It was simply harmless, deserved a better death, and died in such a cliché way. I actually am genuinely disappointed that she died by getting eaten by a lion. Why not give it a heroic death? There was very little sadness, and seeing that it was Amy’s only thing form her mom or even home in general left, you would think that the death of the rat would have hit her more.
Then we have Pete/Ozma. I love that they ended up being the same person, but I don’t like the mix between them. The fight for control was really underwhelming and kind of just got in the way. Pete also careful and didn’t want to be near Dorothy or any of the “good” people of Oz. After a talk with Glenda, he just decides that she can help him? Yeah, he just found out that he might disappear after Ozma is cured, but still. The only book is about how she and Dorothy can’t be trusted, and then he just goes running to them? Which, in turn, kills a unicorn tiger, a fairy, and ruins a whole another land. That the end, he and Ozma are separated anyways by the wizard that be trusted.
Let’s talk about Nox for a second. He got lost while teleporting, so he ended up on the Island of the Lost. NOX GOT SOFT! He says being on the island made him think, but I feel like sitting by yourself on an island doesn’t make you that soft. Like he was all I want to talk about how I feel, and I don’t have many walls up anymore, who is this? Nox was one of my favorite characters from the first book, and right now, I can’t deal with him. Where is the old Nox? Is this not the real Nox?
I’m so excited to finish this series! These books are perfect for people who love the Wizard of Oz! I can’t get enough of these books! I’m so excited to see how this series will end. I honestly hope that maybe juts Dorothy will turn around and become good again.
